March 2011 NatureScapes Hummingbird Photography Workshop

I’ve been working with professional bird photographer Greg Downing, the founder of the great online forum www.naturescapes.net, for a few years now on an annual hummingbird photography workshop here in Costa Rica. In fact, Greg was arguably the first photographer to develop a realistic-looking lighting scheme for multi-flash hummingbird photography. I had been experimenting a bit myself with multi-flash for hummingbirds when I did my first trip with Greg a few years ago and quickly became hooked, as you can see from the numerous hummingbird-related posts on this blog! And as you know, I like to experiment with lighting for a broad range of image styles; I thank Greg for getting me started with the base to go out and experiment with my own hummingbird images, which is exactly what Greg and I will be doing with our clients in March. Greg and I will be teaching participants how to do multiple-flash hummingbird photography and of course setting things up so that the participants come away with great images of their own.

In addition to this specific trip, I’m excited that Greg has invited me to be a part of the new NatureScapes certified nature photography workshops initiative. I’m honored to be in some great company as a featured instructor along with Greg Downing, professional photographer, tech guru, and NatureScapes co-founder EJ Pieker, and the fantastic bird photographer and setup master Alan Murphy.
