I used a 10 stop neutral density filter (kind of like welder's glass) for a very long exposure at sunset at my favorite beach on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. The resulting 3 minute exposure gave an ethereal look to the image just after the sun had set.

The Tatio geysers at over 15,000 feet in the altiplano of the Atacama Desert in Chile. Image taken just before sunrise.

Chile's Torres del Paine National Park is an amazing place. While leaving my lodge before dawn to photograph a sunrise at a different locale, I was drawn to this placid scene of a starry sky with the famed "Horns of the Paine" reflected in a calm lake about an hour before the sun came up over the horizon. I missed my planned sunrise shot but it was totally worth it!

The Savegre River forms the central vein of a new UNESCO biosphere reserve in Costa Rica. I used a long exposure and off-camera flash to try to capture lush tropical yet enchanted feel of this area of the country.
