This photo tour was easily one of the best trips that I have ever taken. Greg has carefully cultivated relationships with various property owners to provide spectacular and extremely productive venues at which to photograph. Greg’s individualized, hands-on teaching style and his preference for smaller tour groups allow him to share his knowledge of photography and his expertise as a naturalist with each participant as if he or she were the only client on the trip.
While many photo tour leaders in the industry spend much of their time during tours photographing for themselves instead of working directly with their clients, Greg hardly used his gear except for demonstration purposes. He is a gifted teacher with a genuine passion for helping his clients come away with a variety of strong images, ensuring that they enjoy themselves and providing them with a lasting appreciation of the incredible birds, wildlife and scenery of Costa Rica.

Toucans-hummers-quetzals-2019.jpg

With my good friend Greg Downing of Naturescapes, I take you to my favorite spots in Costa Rica for toucans, hummingbirds, macaws, and the famed quetzal. The two Gregs are by your side the whole time to help you improve your bird photography technique.

We were impressed with Greg’s breadth of knowledge as both a naturalist and a photographer. We also enjoyed his ability and willingness to share that knowledge with all of the tour participants on a daily basis. Greg was always ready to help out with advice on how to improve our shots, and his easy going manner made traveling with him very enjoyable. We would highly recommend any tour that he is involved with. And if you are thinking about Costa Rica, you’ve got to go with Greg! Greg Rocks!

Ecuador-Tropical-Bird-Photography-2019.jpg

Led with my good friend Doug Brown, this trip is the most subject-packed and teaching intensive bird photography workshop in Ecuador. From the Amazon to the cloud forest, Doug and I are with you every step of the way to teach you natural light, fill-flash, and multiple-flash techniques.

While many of us were skilled and experienced in nature photography, the unique low-light rain forest environment provided opportunities to vastly increase our productivity, but only with Greg’s expertise and oversight. Greg is amiable, humble, and a nice guy. He listens well, helps at all levels, includes everyone, and customizes his approach to each individual’s needs and preferences.

Without hesitation I’d recommend taking advantage of one of Greg Basco’s workshops. World class - without doubt. It would be hard to think of a better experience!

Ecuador-Hummingbirds-and-Herps-2019.jpg

With my good friend Lucas Bustamante, I take you to my favorite spots in Ecuador for hummingbirds and frogs. In the beautiful and comfortable cloud forests, we teach you how to take artistic photos of Ecuador's amazing hummingbirds, frogs, lizards, and snakes.

Excellent lodges with superb food are chosen to complement the amazing locations, which provide a wide selection of photo opportunities. Greg is a patient, experienced photographer, who readily imparts his knowledge to the clients and does not mind repeating what he has said when you don’t always get it right or forget. I have learnt so much about taking photographs and the use of flash.
